Hello everyone

Here at Shaggy Business there is so much going on. Lots of beautiful dogs and their wonderful families coming and going daily. For me, this means a lot of work and a great sense of satisfaction with my contribution to families and of course making these animals look and feel good.

At Shaggy Business we mostly have moments of happiness and lots of fun, but occasionally, there are some sad stories of past lives of dogs who are now cared for and loved. Then, there are those shaggy creatures that come in all woolly, overgrown and with no recognizable face who emerge from the salon with extreme, but stunning makeovers. There are the snappy ones, the shy, the scared, the old, the very young and everything in between…yes I have seen it all and they all leave me happy and relaxed. I still hold a 100% record for dogs eating their treats…I know this will burst one day, but hey, whilst ahead I am really proud of it as it shows they are happy and have confidence in me.

I have families hugging me, children screaming with delight and people I have met only once bringing me gifts to show their appreciation.

What more could someone want?

Grooming these creatures really is instant gratification and I thank the universe every day for this gift.

So, the point I want to make guys is that I can’t constantly maintain a website and a facebook page because I simply cant give 100% to both. Therefore, I will occasionally update this website with major changes but my focus will be the Shaggy Business Professional Dog Grooming Facebook page. Here you will find before and after photos, interesting information and feedback from my clients.

https://www.facebook.com/shaggybusinessdoggrooming

Take the time to look and then give me a call to discuss your dog and his or her needs.

Attached are some of my clients and some home pictures.

Kind regards

Thank you to all my Shaggy Business Professional Dog Grooming clients who have written such lovely things about me and my business.

It is heart warming to hear your stories and how your dogs fit into your lives.

When you love what you do, it is not work, it’s great fun.

Animals, particularly dogs are my passion.

When I make them look and feel good, then this translates through to their families and to me.

I know I have made a positive difference, made an old dog more comfortable, introduced a puppy to the noises of the salon or simply provided an enjoyable grooming session for us both.

So, to the Shaggy Business clan….thank you so much!

Here’s a picture of Bocco who has come to LOVE the hydro bath and the warm, massaging effect of the water. He fights me to get in!

A member of a very active family, Cooper spends lots of time swimming, exploring the Riverland and getting prickles in his coat! He needed tight feet and his thick coat clipped to make it easier to manage. He feels the heat and so it was timely for a full groom. He had a lot of hair in his ears which was clipped to allow breathing and his fluffy little ears will feel much better now. After his groom his family said he was so much happier and was running around like a puppy! Amazing what a new hairdo can do!!!!

Here is a before and after of Mr Cooper.

An exotic name for an exotic little dog.
A Maltese Chihuahua cross this little girl was a real sweetheart. She is almost a year old and her mum Sam just loves her to bits. Her brother is a big cross breed of Mastiff and Rottweiler so the two of them together look super cute. She certainly knows how to hold her own with a big bang personality.

Today Sayara had a full groom, round feet, longer on top of her head, nails and anal glands. She loved the bath but the dryer was a challenge so she spent 10 minutes being blow-dried in a comfy crate. She went home with lots of energy and will be cool for the upcoming 41 degrees we are expecting on Saturday.

Here is the before and a few afters for you to see how lovely she looks.

Sayara will be groomed every 6 -8 weeks to keep her coat in optimal condition.

Two super cute little sisters who came in for full grooms. It was very funny as both were vying for my attention. Annie reminds me of the stunning artic fox with beautiful sleek, thick coat and fine lines. Those papillon ears are just superb. Mia started off a bit shy but we were best buddies at the end. Mia is older and goes for the cute teddy bear look. Most importantly their coats are functional for their lifestyle and their owner . Their mum is so proud of them and they are exercised regularly at the beach. They do everything together and life is good! I forgot the before photos but am sure you’ll agree how adorable they both are.

A 4 year old cavoodle I am convinced she was a kangaroo in a past life. Bounding around with unlimited supercharged energy I knew the challenge that lay ahead! She was fluffy and had lots of knots in tender places so I had to be particularly careful. Her mum felt it best to go short as she is busy and sometimes cant comb and brush as often as she would like. It was a great idea although unbelievably gave Charlie girl even more energy!!! Brenton had to hold the happy girl so I could try for a pic. What a honey and her base coat was apricot…really pretty.

Charlie girl before and after. The pics were a fluke when she was still for a nano second but don’t show how pretty she really was. Also, she had really tight feet done to prevent further matting between her toes.

Anyway, here is a pic of Gracie after her bath and then after she has been hand dried and clipped.

Gracie also had tight feet done as she was pretty hairy between her little toes!!

Her mum Valerie was delighted with the results.

Its so great to see dog owners putting the welfare of their animals first. Tilly is a lucky girl!

Well, she bounced out very proud of her new look! Her mum loved it too. She will be super comfy over the coming months.

The after pic turned out blurry but Tilly kindly posed to show the first clipping down her right side. So we managed an ‘action’ during grooming shot!

What a great smile!!!!

At just 12 weeks old he is a bundle of energy. Lyn and Alby his mum and dad wanted to see his face and trim down his coat and so the fun began. Puppies are challenging because they cant keep still and Leo even more so because of his size.

We all contributed to Leo’s make over with mum and dad turning inside out to keep his attention.

Leo’s parents can now see his beautiful eyes !

And he looks even cuter if thats possible.

That’s his mum’s hand holding him…you can see how tiny he is.

Here is a before and after.

The truth is we are not 100% sure why this behaviour occurs. There may be a number of reasons and you, as their owner know your dog best. So, if the behaviour becomes obsessive, ongoing and repetitive, then I suggest you see a vet to rule out stomach or bowel inflammation or other issues.

So, Bocco and occasionally Chubba (my two dogs) eat grass. Chubba is very specific with his grasses and eats only lemongrass. Now this is interesting given dogs tend to shy away from anything citrus in nature.
Bocco will only eat grass if it is long and luscious looking so also displays a very specific preference for the tips. He will very occasionally follow Chub’s lead with lemongrass.

School of thought ranges from ingesting grass due to hunger, boredom, habit, stomach distress or as a relief from nausea. There are also the evolutionary or ancestor theories. Dogs back then needed top hunting skills to survive. They may have eaten grass so their scent was less likely to be detected by their prey.

Grass contains nutrients that dogs may crave. There may be levels of protein and vitamins that might be missing in their current diet. The Lemongrass Chubba eats is a source of vitamin A and C as well as antioxidants, anti cancer and anti inflammatory. Lemongrass also rebalances the intestinal flora. It may be that he gets some anti inflammatory relief from it, although being highly fibrous it’s almost impossible for him to digest it.

Think about the benefits we get from some grasses. Wheatgrass springs to mind full of Vitamin A, C, B, calcium, phospherous, magnesium, sodium and potassium. Why wouldn’t our dogs want to take the tops off of this?

So, instead of letting your dogs graze over your back yard where there are possibly fertilizers or chemicals, a good idea is to grow some grasses and other greens to fulfil this need.

Whatever the reason, make sure your dog has a varied diet, full of raw food like chicken necks, liver, chicken feet, fish, liver, bones and green tripe.

Many vets consider eating grass harmless but nevertheless always keep a watchful eye on the behaviour of your animals.
